Cheltenham’s Twin Towns

This illustrated presentation will look at the five Twin and two Friendship towns linked with Cheltenham; why we have them; what does (and doesn’t) happen; and the connection between the Civic and the Community activities associated with town twinning.

Martin Kimber has been involved in Cheltenham twinning activities for thirty years.  He set up the first Youth exchanges with our Russian twin town of Sochi in the early 1990s, and worked to set up the ongoing Youth Peace Camp with Gottingen and its twin towns that was set up in 1995, the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.  He is a founder member of the Cheltenham Twinning Association executive committee and worked for Gloucestershire County Council Youth Service for thirty-one years.  He currently spends a couple of days a week in Stratford, as a Volunteer Visitor Engagement guide for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
