The aim of the Cheltenham U3A genealogy group is to help its members with their researches into their family histories.
The group is divided into two subgroups (of about 8 people each) because of its popularity, and each subgroup meets every two months, at the houses of its members. It functions on a problem-solving and self-help basis. Members describe the aims of their research, and state the course of action they propose to adopt. As they proceed, members present their problems to the rest of their subgroup, and solutions are suggested.
Advice is shared on techniques used, on sources of information, on developments in genealogical records, and on information storage.
