Group walk in the Sapperton area, September 2021

Longer Walks group members at New Fancy Viewpoint, Forest of Dean, August 2021

Are you a keen walker who enjoys exploring our splendid local countryside?

The Longer Walks group is for U3A members who want to go further than the 5 miles or so that other walking groups offer.  We aim to hold one walk each month, on a weekday.

Walks are led by volunteer members of the group.  The walk leader is free to decide the route and the date.  Walks are typically 8 – 12 miles in Gloucestershire, but occasionally may be shorter or longer than this, or a little further afield. The walk leader will advise how challenging the terrain will be. Group members are regular walkers, but not super-athletes! The pace varies with the terrain but we usually average about 2½ mph, so a walk typically last 4 to 5 hours (excluding stops).

Walks normally start at 10.00 and we break for refreshments mid-morning and a picnic lunch later on.  In the past some walks have included a pub lunch, but that pleasure will have to wait until times are more normal.

There is no limit on the number of group members on the mailing list, but a group of a dozen or so walkers per outing is about the most that can be safely and comfortably managed.

If all this makes you want to pull on your walking boots and join the group, please contact me with your U3A membership number and I’ll add you to the group membership list. I will also be happy to answer any further questions you have.
