Queen’s Jubilee

Previously publicised, by its working title, Picnic in the Park, this Jubilee Jolly is being organized by the Friends of Sandford Park and our u3a has opted to participate.

While the Friends are appealing for help with children’s activities, cake making and general marshalling, we will be concentrating on enjoying this Jubilee Celebration and promoting interest in Cheltenham’s u3a through our presence.

The event will enable each of our groups to show off our wide range of interests manifested by the oganisation’s130 groups; either by rehearsing plans for the Third Age Trust Chair’s visit on 18th July, but this time in a more casual setting with the added benefit of families and friends being able to join in a picnic and to enjoy the other attractions.  Or, simply by coming down to Sandford Park (next to the u3a gazebo offering publicity information) with a folding chair and joining the u3a members that will have clustered near the boules piste; with or without your boules, camera, sketchpad or yoga outfit.

To add to our presence, u3a table tennis groups are planning to play on what will be Sandford Park’s latest facility, an outdoor table. The table is to be publicly ‘inaugurated’ on the day.

We are integral to the organisers’ plans who are looking to us to make it a more complete celebration. Being mindful of the number of other events that will be taking place over this celebratory weekend, they are concentrating on making it dog and family friendly, possibly with a dog show and by providing children’s activities.

Although the celebrations will start at 11am and finish at 5pm on the day you need only stay as long as you want
