The Great Exhibition in the Crystal Palace, 1851 by Barbara Edward

10 million sheets of glass, over 6 million visitors, built on time, on budget and taking 39 weeks from scratch. A tribute to Victorian speed, efficiency and optimism (and lack of planning rules!)

Followed by: The British Steam Tram by Graham Fisher

I am a tramway enthusiast and have given a similar talk to the u3a Model Railway Group. This time I will include more social history and politics of public transport in the last twenty years of the 19th century.
